Mozambique will implement a tourism fee of 1% on accommodation.
Last week the Mozambique parliament authorised a tourism fee on accommodation for every tourist visiting hotels and lodges in the country.
The tourism levy has been proposed as a fixed fee of 1% per bed night. Government officials will now meet with the private sector to discuss the way forward.
Jeremias Manussa, Marketing Manager of the Mozambique Tourism Authority said: “The money raised from the tourism levy will be used for promotion and participation in international events and campaigns to promote Mozambique as a tourist destination.” He added that the implementation date for the fee was yet to be decided and would be communicated once the regulation, collection and management of the levy was finalised and an agreement with the private sector was reached.
